Westland Fasteners Vision is to become the one stop shop for fasteners for specialty industries such as: agricultural, metal fabricating, construction, transportation, cabinet furniture, window and door manufacturers.
Our unique ability to achieve this vision of being the "one stop shop for fastener supplies" for specific industry groups is made possible by two core capabilities:
1. Our combined manufacturing and distribution capabilities - allowing us to handle everything from custom products to
off the shelf commodities for these customers. Our expertise from being both a manufacturer and distributor and in focussing on specific industries allows us to be the expert for helping our customers identify and source the correct products. And, only a combined manufacturer and distributor can cover the entire range of fasteners needed by these market segments.
2. Our customer-focused strategy - with specialized programs that allow our customers to minimize inventories yet have quick deliveries at a predictable pricing structure.
Our passion for excellence in manufacturing and sourcing combined with our industry knowledge in how fasteners are used by our clients will allow Westland Fasteners to achieve our Vision in the years ahead.
BACKGROUND
Westland has seen steady growth since 1982 and has built a reputation for quality. Today we are one of the leading manufacturers of specialty custom fasteners. The factory is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and covers 58,000 square feet. From this location products are shipped throughout North America and the world.
Westland manufactures a broad range of bolts, screws and related fasteners such as:
Eye and U-Bolts, elevator bolts, plow bolts etc.
Wheel and hub bolts
Wood, sheet metal and machine screws
Clevis pins and more
To ensure total quality and production control of our products, in-house facilities provide heat-treating and surface finishing such as Zinc and Zinc Dichromate electroplating in the hexa-valent and trivalent formats. Corrosion protection to 1000 hrs. salt spray resistance is also available.
Westland operates under ISO 9001:2000 management systems in the entire plant. On site is a quality assurance laboratory, which is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) to ISO 17025 standard, registration number 094. We manufacture products to customer specifications or to fastener standards such as ISO, I.F.I., SAE, A.S.T.M. or Military Standards. Westland is recognized as US FQA (Fastener Quality Assurance Act) compliant and is QSML approved by the US Defense Logistics Agency.
Westland Fasteners operates a distribution centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Initially the objective was to be a sales office for manufactured items from Winnipeg for the Alberta marketplace. However, our office had demand from our core customer segments and forced us into being a true distribution centre sourcing products from our Winnipeg plant but also from foreign and domestic suppliers.
Through our experience in Edmonton, we have realized that our true value and our future is based on leveraging our knowledge and our combined manufacturing and distribution capabilities for certain customer sets.
Thus, our combined vision has evolved from being manufacturing centric to customer centric and we will be focusing our marketing, sales, sourcing and manufacturing skills around:
Becoming the one stop shop for certain customer segments
Becoming the expert at understanding the needs of these customers
Forecasting demand for these customers and having the product available immediately for delivery at a profitable, yet competitive price-point.
Focusing our policies and energy around making it easy to do business with Westland Steel.
This strategy allows our business to be predictable and profitable and allows our organization to differentiate itself from others who are only manufacturing or only distributing or not focused on only fastener needs and expertise for a given industry.
